John and a male scientist

Hi all, I'm looking for a specific fic that I read a long time ago, but I'm also open to other similar fics. I've tried using some of the other fanfic search sites with no luck, so I'm hoping for better luck here...

I'm looking for a story where John is involved with one of the male scientists who dies because of the nanovirus from the "Hot Zone" episode. Because of DADT, he can not openly mourn the loss of his partner. I'm pretty sure that Rodney knew about their relationship and offered his condolences. I think the story ended up as a McShep story by the end.

This is the story I'm really hoping to find, but I wouldn't mind some recs in a similar vein...John is romantically involved with a male scientist who dies or even just leaves. John can't openly mourn the loss either because of DADT or simply because of his own inability to express his emotions healthily, and preferably ends up McShep.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why This Must Be Read: This is an episode tag to Home, the one with the sentient mist. After they get back to Atlantis Rodney asks John what was going on with his weird dead friends party, and John thinks about, but doesn't fess up to, a missing scene in which he found Rodney waiting for him in the bathroom at the bachelor pad. Eventually, Rodney shares his own mist-induced fantasies, and all's well. It's a fun might-have-been missing scene for the episode. There's great characterization, and it's hot and cleverly written.

Author's Summary:

Returning home after leaving his grandfather with the giant aliens, Daniel is fine.

Why This Must Be Read:

This is a Daniel-centric fic, primarily dealing with the SG-1 episode "The Crystal Skull" where Nick stays with the aliens.

Daniel is 'fine' -- for a certain value of fine. It takes Jack to assure Daniel that he won't always be left behind.

Why This Must Be Read: Set in Episode: s07e02 Homecoming, this fic is a somber missing scene between a newly-returned Daniel and Teal'c. I love the way their friendship is shown and how accepting Teal'c is of whoever Daniel may be now, regardless of if he regains his memories, regardless of if he is exactly the same. It's a quiet moment and beautifully done.

Why This Must Be Read: it's Earth Christmastime, but on Atlantis it's mid-summer and the Australians have organized a barbeque. This is one of Mandysbitch's sweeter stories in which the boys get tipsy and end up in bed. It's hot and steamy, a nice slice-of-life, and soft-centered. Lovely writing, and a feelgood ending.

Author's Summary:

The (probably) complete works in my Clone!Verse series, all in one convenient location.

Why This Must Be Read:

I couldn't resist rec'ing this form of Jack O'Neill. It's clone!Jack with a clone!Sam together, starting in high school and going through adulthood. There's even a fun crossover with Warehouse 13 in the middle.

The entire series of ficlets are fluffy and happy. A perfect read when you need a reason to smile and laugh.

I'm going to put my hopes into that 'ish' part of complete-ish because we all need new reasons to smile.

Why This Must Be Read: I'm rarely one to go in for porn-with-plot (When I drink water, I drink water; when I drink whiskey, I drink whiskey), but this fic has a great balance with the whump, angst, and threesome featuring excellent characterization. Told from Carter's POV, the fic features her, Teal'c, and Daniel taken prisoner while Jack has (we hope) escaped.

Teal'c's characterization especially is an absolute treat. It captures his personality well, at one point describing him, "He did everything with such tightly restrained, but visible passion".

I have been trying to find a story (trying and trying and trying…), but have had zero luck. Because despite the fact I absolutely loved the story, I don’t remember what it’s about. Or the author. I just remember how it made me feel. My search has been particularly frustrating because I have been reading breathtakingly beautiful SGA fic for 20+ years, and have a huge list of favorites, but no keywords or author’s name to narrow my search.

All I have to go on is a quote from John that I saved because it made my heart ache and resonated deeply. I want to frame and hang it on my wall (it resonated that deeply) but don’t want to do so without crediting the author. I’m also a bit desperate to reread the story.

I am really hoping that someone recognizes the quote and can help me find the story:

“I let it go,” he continued, “I did stuff I’m proud of. I did stuff I’m not proud of. I can’t change any of it. It’s gone now. It’s past. I let it go and do what I can today.”

I would be grateful for any help, and truly appreciate this community.

(Sorry, I have no idea how to tag this)
